When your computer hard drive fails spontaneously: Frustration or freedom?

If you're like most people, you have a lot of your life—both personal and business—on your computer. From financial records to secret writing to documents for your work. Right?

You probably have plenty of digital photos and videos, that although priceless in nature—especially of your babies—have always seemed safe on your computer. They have been transferred from computer to computer, as old computers have been replaced with newer ones, hard drives transferred intact.

priceless memories and data

You probably don't think much about losing all of that on a day-to-day basis. Do you?

If you've been doing this for years and have lost data before by stupid spacious moments (accidents) such as spilling a glass of wine onto the keyboard, or letting the computer get too hot and fry unknowingly, you probably know the pain and swore it would never happen to you again!

Are you always too busy: Do you care about your freedom?

Image source: https://www.facebook.com/namastedharmacafe?directed_target_id=0It seems to be the new cool to say you're busy, swamped or otherwise not available for free time. Why is that?

It's cool to control your freedom

Isn't the true meaning of living the ability to control your own schedule, which also means living a good life and having the freedom to chose how you spend your precious time?

I fall into this sometimes too. Recently my friend Joslyn Hamilton asked me how I was doing in an electronic conversation. I left the message unanswered for weeks because I did not want to come back with my honest "I'm busy, swamped." So, I waited. Until today.

Behind the eyes of a writer™: A series, part five

Behind the eyes of a writer™: A series, part five

when? whenever i feel like it. that's when.

Continuing on from sometimes silenced, part four of Behind the eyes of a writer™ series, somtimes the words don't come.

When are you going to write poetry? Do you have to feel like it to write poetry?

...when it's all wrong

It‘s obvious to me that creative words come from the heart and the soul of life, which when flowing freely come sporadically. It is what’s in the silence in between moments.

When it’s all wrong—when all avenues are clogged—the words hide behind what’s tender and unspoken. As if being controlled by some other force, they lie dormant crying unheard, alone.

Expressions of apathy take the place of worlds of hurt, anguish, love and tenderness. They scream “you don’t care anyway so why should I speak.

Learning how to live like a cat

I have wondered lately if it would be possible to live the life of one of my two indoor cats, and if I were to accomplish this endeavor, how relaxed life would be. As I rush around through my days full of schedules and kids, I often remind myself of the solace I will feel when I finally get to relax on the floor—alone in a space to call my own, just big enough for me, for a meditative yoga pose... eyes closed.

But as I break free from my own little world, looking into the universe that my cats call home, I find that they are to be revered as far as wellness is concerned.

I once told a friend of mine that I'm taking a two week vacation, yet to stay at home. My vacation was to be at home and live the life of a cat.

I would wake up when I please, get someone to make me food and change my water, and then look for a warm, sunny spot to chill for awhile. If it got too loud, I would retreat to a cozy, cavelike spot surrounded with all things warm and fluffy. I would sleep for hours, only to wake when I missed the people I love.

I would then make my way to them to cuddle with glee, purr loudly and enjoy my bliss—sometimes by a bonus fireplace—and life would be complete.

Meow.

Letting go of worries, enjoying your summer days, living your yoga

It's summertime... But just because the beach and sunshine beckon you to follow a free-spirited attitude, you can actually allow yourself to relive your yoga.

Living yoga keeps you focused on your breath all day, getting you through stressful situations, structured responsibilities, which destresses you but also opens you to higher spiritual potentials.

Better said, don't worry if summer schedules take you away from your disciplined yoga practice. You do not have to be doing asanas in a yoga studio to be doing yoga.

Remember, yoga is a way of life. It can help you smile your way through life with a knowing vision in your heart. Living yoga in your life can teach you that no matter what, what you love is always there, will be there tomorrow, and has always been there.

Walk through the vestibule: Sounds and sights as benchmarks

You have, I'm sure, had the experience at one time in your life of forgetting what you were doing as soon as you entered another room. Do doorways actually serve as event boundaries or is one's ability to remember linked to the environment in which a decision was created?

True, research has shown that environmental factors affect memory and that information learned in one environment is retrieved better when the retrieval occurs in the same context. The act of passing through a doorway, however, serves as a way the mind files away memories.

Walk through the vesibule into your new home and feel yourself enter into a new world full of possibilities—new thoughts, sounds, visions.

Your life is interpretted by a cacophony of sounds, sights and feelings, whether in the forefront or background of your days. From city streets to your own old house. As time passes, you get used to it all, and allow chaos to blend into your life. By tuning out that which takes over your senses of distraction, you keep the melodious qualities that bring music to your ears.

Feel yourself at peace: Coming into wholeness

What does that mean to come into wholeness? Imagine yourself at peace, in love and at one with your path in life, and then you will know the answer.

You do not need to rely on another person or object. You can find this peace from within yourself. Allow yourself to let go of all the impediments that allow your chaotic mind to take over. Without all of the excess, you are free!

In fact, you can access this freedom any time! The truest side of who you are, peaceful and undisturbed, coexists with your emotional mind.

A metaphor...

Imagine 3 buckets of water.

  • one is muddy
  • one is stirred up
  • one is still and clear

The sun shines in all 3. Each enjoys the sun equally. Reflection is dim and dull in the first, agitated in the second and peaceful in the third. Seeing the sun as the Self, the water as the mind, and the reflection as the Ego, we can make some conclusions.
