Some top tips for social media internet marketing

Social media marketing brings your brand to the internet audienceIf I had to make a list of the top social media tips, what would they be:

Know your audience and speak to them. Inspire them to come back every day for new tidbits of information, like one of the favorite books they are reading.

Be a place to go for interaction (not a billboard). Pose questions and topics for discussion. Do not always be a place that always tries to promote and give readers another thing to do, or another way to spend money they do not have. When a person is inspired, they will do what they have to do to give you the business you desire.

Invite pure participation, not necessarily anything outside of interacting on their computer. This builds a following.

Set the stage for inquiry and group discussion.

Know the optimal times of day to post.

Know the optimal frequency of posts.

Introduce your competitors and share information. Curation helps your business, while discussing a shared industry.

Share inspiration.

Share inspiration (yes, I said that twice for a reason).

Post honesty, even if controversial, so that you get to the truth of the reasons that drive people.

Reference experts in the field.

Be an expert. Speak from your expertise. Create a venue that is completely catered to you, where you can speak from authentically.

Know your SEO (search engine optimization), specifically for your industry so that you can optimize your traffic.

Determine the type of reporting you will use for statistics so that you can track your ROI (return on investment). Some applications have this built in, whereas some require you incorporate a 3rd party such as Google Analytics for websites or blogs. Some reporting setups are free, whereas others require upgrades to higher level service packages in order to receive the better statistical reporting.

Be prepared to pay someone up to 32 hours per month per profile, or spend this time yourself. It is important to stay on top of it so that you key off of all the ideas that are fresh.

View your news feeds.

Check and respond to your comments. This includes monitoring your spam folder. When you  generate comments and responses, you increase your traffic (i.e., being seen by more people). Sometimes this could mean responding to something vague with a detailed response in order to summarize your stance, inviting more people to chime in.

Be a daily presence in your followers news feeds. At a minimum try for 3 times per week.  Do not expect immediate results. It takes time.

Know (and believe) that it is a process that evolves organically. It can become of life of its own.
